Al Arabi and Al Rayyan shared the points at Al Thumama on Saturday, and neither side scored. Al Rayyan, captained by David Garcia, tried to take hold of the game. Al Arabi matched them, and neither team could turn its attacking chances into a goal.
It was goalless at half-time. Mohammed Khalid Al-Naimi had already been booked for Al Arabi in the 27th minute. Two more yellow cards came in the 73rd minute, one to Ahmed Fathi Abdoulla, the Al Arabi captain, and one to Otavio Monteiro, who had come off the Al Rayyan bench. Ameed M Mahajneh, also a substitute, was booked for Al Arabi in the 85th minute. The second half ended goalless as well.
The point was not enough to keep Al Rayyan top. Vicente Moreno Peris's side are level with Al Sadd on 18 points and have dropped to second on goal difference. Cosmin Contra's Al Arabi, who started with Pablo Sarabia, Jordan Veretout and Michael Olunga, moved on to 13 points.
